Dumb Head

Songwriters: David Hess & Camille Monte
This one came out in 1963 and woulda set back the woman's lib movement back by about a hundred years if it woulda been a hit. Luckily, it wasn't and Lesley Gore came along just after this with "You Don't Own Me". All I know about Ginny is that she also sang as a duo with Gene Pitney under the name Jamie & Jane. Ginny followed "Dumb Head" with the equally daft "I Wish I Knew What Dress To Wear".
And what is the instrument that plays the solo? Some say kazoo. Some say fuzz guitar. Sounds to me like a fuzz kazoo. You be the judge.
Joe Meek made the U.K. version with The Sharades. The Sharades went on to change their name to The Ladybirds (of Benny Hill fame).

Ginny's version is very, very catchy. And funny. I like it. The solo is clearly a kazoo.

The Sharades version really sucks. The melody is still catchy but the execution is terrible. The vocals are bad. What's with the background singers recorded in a barrel? The solo on this one seems to be made with a a keyboard.
